The 2010 International Six Days Enduro event starts today, and there has been a flurry of activity as teams from all around the world set to do battle in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. Billed as one of the most demanding enduro events, ISDE participants will average more than 150 miles of dirt terrain throughout each day of the six-day contest. Team trucks have arrived and settled in, and the paddock has quickly come to life with a variety of colorful flags from 28 different countries. Individual teams have begun practicing just outside Altozano, and more than 50 thousand visitors are expected to participate in the festivities to occur over the next week.
Representing USA at the 85th ISDE event will be Destry Abbott, Mike Brown, Kurt Caselli, Jimmy Jarrett, Timmy Weigand and Nathan Woods. Abbott is an AMA Team USA veteran and World Trophy Team co-captain. With five National Hare and Hound Championships under his belt, Abbott is an experienced enduro rider with four ISDE Gold Medals.
This will be the sixth trip Abbott has made to an ISDE event, and he will be contesting the E2 class aboard a Kawasaki KX450.
"The ISDE continues to be one of my all-time favorite events," Abbott said. "I look forward to it every year, and I'm excited to see what we can accomplish as a team. This year's team is extremely strong, and consists of five riders who know what to expect and what it takes to conquer this event and bring home a gold.”
The other captain of Team USA is Caselli, who recently clenched the 2010 WORCS Championship for the second time. Returning to the ISDE for the fourth time, the 26-year-old will race his KTM 250 EXC in the E1 class.
Brown may be a new addition to the team this year, but the FMF/KTM rider is an accomplished motocross and off-road racer. Brown clenched the 2001 AMA 125cc Motocross Championship, and he will be competing alongside Caselii in the E1 class aboard his KTM 250 EXC.
Returning for the second time will be Timmy Weigand. In 2009 Wiegand originally filled in for Woods, who was injured and unable to participate. Racing a Honda CRF450R in the E2 class, Wiegand won the 2009 AMA Western Regional Hare Scrambles Championship, and is eager to be returning. Meanwhile, Woods will be returning for his second time to the event. Currently competing in the 2010 EnduroCross Championship, Woods will be racing a Husaberg FE570 in the E3 class.
Last but certainly not least is Jimmy Jarrett, who holds several years of experience racing in the GNCC series. He’s no stranger to the ISDE competition, and this will be his sixth time representing USA in the E2 class.
Other teams which stand out due to their number of participants are those from Argentina, Germany, France and Mexico. Latin America will be represented by nine separate countries at the event, including Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela and Mexico.
Other countries in attendance will be Andorra, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Japan, Holland, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland.
